About this Session

Serverless applications are often referred to as being made up of "small pieces, loosely joined." The typical system is made up of single-purpose Lambda functions, APIs, queues, topics, event buses, and workflows. Serverless applications also align well with event-driven architectures, which bring their own challenges with observability.

In this workshop, you'll gain hands-on experience observing, debugging, and resolving issues with a real serverless application powering the product backend of an ecommerce website. You'll use infrastructure as code (IaC) to deploy your application, add Datadog observability, debug issues and gain deeper insight into how your application is performing—whether that be application errors or better understanding what's happening during your cold starts. This workshop covers the full spectrum of AWS serverless services: AWS Lambda, Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon API Gateway, and AWS Step Functions, as well as some newer features like Lambda Durable Functions.
